Problems stemming from the Composix Kugel Mesh Hernia Patch started to surface as far back as 2002, shortly after Davol Inc., first introduced the large and extra-large models of the hernia patch.
Reports began coming in that the recoil rings on several of the devices were breaking and leading to serious adverse health affects such as bowel obstructions, chronic fistulas and in some cases even death.
The Kugel Hernia Patch was created to help make recovering from hernia surgery easier while reducing the patient's post surgical pain. The patch first won FDA approval in 1996.
The patch is made of two layers of synthetic mesh surrounded by a flexible plastic "memory -recoil ring" is implanted into the hernia site. The ring then springs into place allowing for the hernia to heal and regrow around the patch. Only the recoil ring is defective in many cases and causing serious health problems.
If you have been implanted with a hernia patch and are suffering side affects, you can contact our hernia lawyer for a free consultation by using the button located on the right "Ask an Attorney."
