A Missouri woman has filed a lawsuit saying a defective hernia patch injured her and created a need for several expensive surgeries.
The woman claims the product, made by Davol Inc and its parent company C.R. Bard Inc., failed to repair her abdominal hernia as intended when surgically implanted in July 2005. The hernia patch malfunctioned giving her nerve damage that required further surgery to remove the patch, according to the lawsuit.
The suit, filed in Greene County Circuit Court asked for "fair and reasonable" damages. The defendant's deny the claims and have filed a request to have the case moved to U.S. District Court.
C.R. Bard issued a recall on the hernia patch in December 2005.
